An Unforgettable Journey: IFBC Food Bloggers Conference & Exploring Seattle’s Culinary and Cultural Gems
The International Food Bloggers Conference (IFBC) is renowned as a premier event for culinary content creators, with a staggering ninety-five percent of attendees hailing it as the best food blogger conference available. Having recently experienced it firsthand, I can unequivocally endorse this sentiment. My trip to Seattle for IFBC was an incredible blend of intensive learning, meaningful connections, and vibrant urban exploration. I gained invaluable insights into the dynamic worlds of food, writing, and cutting-edge technology, forged fantastic friendships with fellow bloggers, and thoroughly immersed myself in the rich culture and stunning beauty of the City of Seattle.
Just last week, I returned from a captivating four-day adventure that seamlessly wove together elements of culinary discovery, exciting travel, profound learning, and spirited networking. Seattle played host to the International Food Bloggers Conference, an event that truly exceeded all expectations and left me feeling energized and inspired.
This trip held a special significance beyond the conference itself. My husband, Mr. Allie, and I had long harbored a desire to explore the breathtaking Pacific Northwest. Coincidentally, the timing aligned perfectly with our 10th wedding anniversary, providing the ideal excuse for a celebratory journey. And, as someone who tends to be a bit of a homebody when it comes to solo travel, I was thrilled to have him along for moral support and shared experiences.

His presence was invaluable. While I delved into intensive conference sessions, soaking up every morsel of information my newbie-blogger brain could process, Mr. Allie, a seasoned explorer unperturbed by navigating unfamiliar cities alone, embarked on his own Seattle adventures. He spent his afternoons discovering the city on foot, sampling local delicacies, enjoying refreshing craft beers, and even catching a sporting event or two. This blend of individual pursuits and shared evenings created a perfectly balanced trip for both of us, proving that a food blogging conference can easily be combined with a romantic getaway.
The IFBC sessions themselves were a masterclass in food blogging. I had the privilege of absorbing wisdom from industry titans. Imagine gathering pearls of wisdom from the legendary Dorie Greenspan, whose insights into baking and storytelling are unparalleled. I learned invaluable photography techniques from the esteemed Andrew Scrivani, whose eye for capturing culinary beauty is truly inspiring. The creative genius of Chef John from Food Wishes offered a unique perspective on engaging video content, while the visionary team behind Foodista, including Sheri and Barnaby, shared critical strategies for building a thriving online food community. The depth and breadth of knowledge shared by these speakers were instrumental in expanding my understanding of not just recipe development and culinary trends, but also the technical and business aspects of running a successful food blog, from SEO best practices to audience engagement and monetization strategies. It was a comprehensive dive into the world of digital food content, offering actionable tips and fostering a sense of community among attendees.
I gleaned a tremendous amount of information and inspiration, and I’ll be dedicating a separate, more detailed post to share the specific insights and actionable tips I picked up at IFBC. But for now, I wanted to offer a glimpse into my incredible time in Seattle, and tantalize your taste buds with a sneak peek of a special dessert:

This Vanilla Malt Cake with Cashews and Salted Caramel was crafted in honor of my wonderful mom, and I promise to share all the delectable details and the full recipe in my very next post. Get ready, because it’s going to be absolutely phenomenal!
Beyond the educational sessions and networking, the final day of the conference offered a perfect opportunity for sightseeing. Despite being utterly exhausted and battling a touch of jetlag, Mr. Allie and I embraced our inner tourists. We firmly believe there’s immense joy in exploring a city’s famous landmarks and attractions. It’s a fantastic way to truly connect with the essence of a place, and Seattle offers no shortage of iconic sights. We embarked on a whirlwind tour, eager to experience the destinations that make Seattle so unique and memorable.
Exploring Seattle’s Iconic Landmarks: A Visual Feast
Our sightseeing adventure began at the legendary Pike Place Market, a vibrant hub of activity that’s been a cornerstone of Seattle life for over a century. This historic market is more than just a place to shop; it’s a sensory explosion. The air is filled with the aroma of fresh flowers, exotic spices, and just-baked pastries. The rhythmic chants of the famous fishmongers tossing their catches create a lively soundtrack, while artisanal crafts and fresh produce abound. We wandered through the bustling aisles, mesmerized by the sheer variety and energy. From the vibrant displays of fresh seafood, still glistening from the Puget Sound, to the towering bouquets of flowers, each stall offered a glimpse into Seattle’s rich local culture and culinary scene. It’s a foodie paradise, a photographer’s dream, and an essential Seattle experience.

Our journey continued to the instantly recognizable Space Needle, an enduring symbol of Seattle’s innovative spirit. Standing tall against the skyline, this architectural marvel offers unparalleled panoramic views of the city, Puget Sound, and the majestic Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges. Ascending to its observation deck, we were treated to a breathtaking 360-degree vista, truly capturing the sprawling beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The Space Needle isn’t just a landmark; it’s a testament to human ingenuity and provides a stunning perspective on Seattle’s urban landscape and its natural surroundings.

Finally, we were captivated by the mesmerizing Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibition, an absolute highlight of our Seattle exploration. This striking display showcases the otherworldly creations of Dale Chihuly, a truly innovative artist whose unwavering commitment to his unique vision is, in my humble opinion, unrivaled. Walking through the various galleries and the outdoor garden, you can’t help but marvel at the sheer scale, vibrant colors, and intricate forms of his blown glass installations. Each piece tells a story, appearing as if it could have sprung from the deepest parts of the ocean, or grown organically from the very earth itself.
The installations evoke natural wonders: towering glass reeds sway like an underwater forest, delicate glass flowers bloom in impossible hues, and massive, swirling forms resemble alien coral reefs. The way the light interacts with the translucent and reflective surfaces creates an ever-changing spectacle, transforming the space into a dynamic art experience. Chihuly’s work is a powerful reminder of how art can transcend traditional boundaries, creating breathtaking beauty that feels both ancient and futuristic. It was an immersive and inspiring experience, leaving an indelible impression of artistic brilliance and natural harmony.

Thank you for indulging me in this post, which veers a little from my usual dessert-focused content! It’s not every day I encounter such interesting subjects to photograph, beyond my adorable kiddos, of course. Stay tuned for that incredible cake recipe – it’s truly going to be off the charts and a perfect addition to your baking repertoire!
I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to all of the sponsors of IFBC 2013 for orchestrating such a fantastic and educational weekend. Their support made this exceptional event possible. Looking ahead, IFBC 2014 is already in the planning stages and will be hosted at the elegant Westin Hotel in Seattle. Registration is now open, and I highly recommend securing your spot early. This year’s conference sold out incredibly fast, so don’t miss your chance to be part of this invaluable food blogging experience!
